1400 Visitors - THANK YOU
I have had 1400 unique visitors for the months of Nov/Dec and I would like to thank you for taking the time to read about my experience trying to obtain these little pests. There have been some haters and there have been some really nice people that have tried to help me out. Thanks goes out to the ones that deserve it.
The moral of this whole story is crazy and nuts, now it is Dec 23 and still no Zhu Zhu's for my daughter. I'm waking up tomorrow morning early and I will be out until the stores close to try and accomplish, like the Chicago Blackhawks say "ONE GOAL", instead mine is a little different "ONE HAMSTER"

Ebay's Bubble has bursted
Looks like in the past 10 days the bubble on Ebay bursted, you can know pick these guys up at cost of course it is too late for me to pick one up on ebay and have it shipped on time..

It looks like the new 4 are going for a couple of bucks over cost but looking at the completed auctions know one has been buying the original 4 for anything over cost.
I hope these sellers our stuck with these, yes they made there money but there are going to have a hard time trying to dump these hamsters. Look for these resellers in stores after Christmas returning them...Just give them eye contact and laugh :)

One more day for the hunt
Well I want to thank the kind people that offered up Zhu Zhu's to me, I have been sick and haven't been online lately. Nice time of the year to be sick. Well no Zhu Zhu's as of yet, I tried this morning at Walmart and there was way too many people in line. I'm going tomorrow to Walmart & Toys R US in a last ditch effort.
On Saturday I went to a flea market and I was surprised with all the vendors selling Zhu ZHu's.. they wanted $35 a piece for them.. People where eating it up. Amazing!!!!

Pre Order new Zhu Zhu pets
I just got a link from a buddy of mine about the new color zhu zhu pets that are in the stores now. I'm sure there are a couple of sites out there doing this but I just came across one that is offering Pre-Order for the colors at $14.99 each but they will not be shipped until January. It doesn't really help me out as I need them for XMAS but I thought for those that aren't resellers if you post a comment on my blog I can send you the link , I would post it on here but I don't want it to get in the wrong hands.
CVS Pharmacy - Cary, IL
I had a tip that they where going to be getting these Zhu Zhu's in any day so I went into the store today and talked to the nice lady there. They aren't getting any and it has been so bad she told me that they get over 50 phone calls a day asking about Zhu Zhu's. The funny thing is there is a Big note on the front door stating that they are sorry but they will not be getting in any Zhu Zhu pets.. I will try to take a picture of it tomorrow with my camera.
If today was like the great depression I really think I would have a better chance of finding a loaf of bread and a can soup instead of finding a Zhu Zhu... wait a minute we aren't that far off.

Ebay Update & Who Profits?
45,486 Active Zhu Zhu Pet auctions on ebay!
But here is the sick part 255,805 have SOLD since August 30th. Now I'm going to base an average price of $35.00 to that number and the estimated total sales would be $8,953,175.00
I bet Ebay is loving this, lets say each auction costed the buyer $0.35 to list the item and lets say the average price of each item sold was $35.00 that would be a total of $2.89 in fees just to ebay (NOT INCLUDING PAYPAL FEE's), now times that by 255,805 which are the completed auctions and EBAY gets $739,276.45 just off people selling Zhu Zhu's on Ebay. I'm sure that number is low but I think we all get the picture.
You can almost see why most retailers that carry Zhu Zhu pets have increased the prices.
I'm sure Cephia is doing well these days but I would love to hear the comments from the CEO of Cephia on what he thinks of these numbers.
Lets say Cephia's cost on these hamsters is $2.99 (give or take) and they sell them to retailers like Walmart for $4.99 that would mean based off of Ebay;s completed auction numbers Cephia would have sold only $764,856 for the 255,805 auctions. That is almost equal to the amount of fee's collected by Ebay. Big difference in those 255,805 auctions from gross sales of $764,856 to almost $9 Million in sales. Don't get me wrong, who knows if Cephia purposely limited these to retailers, which I think they didn't because like most US business's times are tough and if the product wasn't going to sell before the holidays would it make sense to carry a large inventory of them?
The point of this story is that yes some people made some money selling Zhu Zhu's on Ebay but at the end of the day the true winner was EBAY and the craze is not even over.

I'm still on a mission here and I will accomplish this before Christmas, if not my kids will read this post later in life and they will understand all the crap I have gone through and why I wasn't able to get one.

Toys R US 7am sale - NO Zhu Zhu for ME
Wow, I got to Toys R US this morning around 6:30, i took one look at the line and said forget it. TRU was letting the first 50 reward members get Zhu Zhu's and after I counted the people in line there was easily about 100 of them.
I'm still on the hunt.. thanks to the kind person that left a message about the Zhu Zhu's at Shopko.com.. I thought I scored because I added one to my cart and by the time I went to checkout it was out of stock..

Target in Crystal Lake, IL
I hit this store first thing this morning when they opened and when I pulled in parking lot 20 minutes before they opened I noticed one woman standing outside waiting to get in. So I waited until 2 minutes before the store opened and I stood out front. Now when I got to the door the woman looked me up and down and we didn't speak to each other but we both new what each other was doing there, ZHU ZHU's...
The door opened and I have to say I have seen a 40 year old woman run so fast in my entire life, I couldn't believe it, so I said shit I have to catch up.. So I got to the Toy isle and she was already there and NO Zhu Zhu's. The look on her face was priceless because she had this smile on her face like.. HA HA I bet you to the Toy isle.. Way to go Babe!!!

Toys R US 3pm sale - Crystal Lake, IL
So I thought I had a chance today, I got to my local Toys R US in Crystal Lake, IL around 2pm for the sale to start at 3pm. The line was out the door, I stood in line and then an employee came around and was counting all the people, because they where selling to the first 100 families (more like the first 100 people) I saw people with children get like 7 Zhu Zhu's, well anyway I wasn't in the first 100 hundred so NO luck for me today.
Funny thing though is that they had accessories and the first 20 people bought all of them. They where selling 1 of each accessory per person, so people where just buying the whole set.
I must say the characters in line where with out a doubt Ebay resellers, Now I probably look like that as well because there was alot of 40+ year old men standing in line but the main difference is that I'm actually looking to get one for my children. I couldn't tell you how many times I heard people in line say there where going to sell them on Ebay for $50.00... the whole thing just made me sick.

Why does this site exist
Ok so I have been getting alot of questions lately about this site and I thought I would take the time to answer them.
1. Why don't you just buy the hamsters on Ebay and be done with it instead of spending so much time driving and shopping for Zhu Zhu's.
Well I'm not going to give in to paying a penny more than what the store's are selling them for. The only reason there is a demand for these hamsters are 2 reasons.
1. Children want these so there is a very big demand because the manufacture didn't expect to have such a popular toy before Christmas.
2. Now with that said, people are buying these just to make a quick buck off them.. Is it Fair?? You be the judge but my opinion is that people are taking advantage of a toy that use to sell for $4.99 6 months ago and are selling them for $40 +.. The sad thing is if people stopped buying these on Ebay, the resellers would buy them in the stores, because of one simple reason "They Can't make any money off them". If this is not a Typical case of American Greed I don't know what is.
2. What is the point in taking so much time to document all this?
Honestly, it is for my family and I to look back at this and laugh. I want my kids to read and see what I had to go through to find these damn hamsters. I came up with the idea after my mom was telling me about how she used to go to stores and search for toys I wanted for Christmas. Especially the Cabbage Kids back in the 80's. So I thought why not document this.
3. Will you stop blogging once you have found them?
No, I enjoy writing and posting online so to me this is a fun journey, plus I'm sure my kids will want all the new zhu zhu's that are coming out, so I don't see the adventure stopping any time soon.
4. Why even bother exploiting people that are selling them on Ebay.
Honestly I understand the demand for these Zhu Zhu pets and I understand the greed we have in today's society. I have listed some of the Ebay sellers on my blog because these are the people that are buying up all the Zhu Zhu's in my area. These people are greedy and could care less about the toy. They are simply out to make money at the expense of parent, now ebay is based on supply and demand so if people list the auction and $0.99 they know they will sell this item for alot more than that. I have stood in plenty of lines and have not been able to get one and I have been to stores where I have watched people grab the last toys off the shelves. The simple fact is I need to get these for my children because that is what they want for Christmas.
This message goes out to all the haters. If you don't like what you are reading or have negative comments, please keep them to yourself, this is a blog and if you want to act or talk like a redheaded step child who's ass still hurts 20 years later from your parents beating it, go do it somewhere else.

Ebay Seller "Zpets"
During the Thanksgiving break this seller "Zpets" sold close to $40k of Zhu Zhu pets, the seller was advertising them as pre-orders and that he would ship them out on Dec 21 with enough time for Christmas Delivery. I just checked the users completed listings and I think Ebay picked up to what the seller was doing because they are no longer selling Zhu Zhu pets and it doesn't show them under the completed listings.

What is going on with Walmart??
So for awhile now I have been going to at least 10 Walmarts in my area and not one of them has gotten Zhu Zhu Pets in for at least 3 weeks. Is there a shortage??? I don't think so I believe they will have a big announcement soon about what day they will be selling them nationwide.
So far the only stores I have heard of them getting Zhu Zhu's in is Toys R US, CVS and Target.

So I thought I had some inside info on Zhu Zhu's being sold at CVS. Well that is true and I called about 15 stores in my area and all of them have gotten them in earlier this week and they are sold out. I spoke to my local store and the manager told me that it was a mistake because they got an email from corporate to have them on the shelves Dec 7... Honestly I don't know who to believe anymore, but I will try and get them on the 7th.
Toys R Us Online - Add to Cart Scam
Ok so I thought I was able to get them today. I got on Toys R Us online and noticed all 4 zhu zhu pets where in stock. I selected 1 of each and it went through. I hit the check out button and entered my cc info. All good until the final step: I got the fatal error that the items have been canceled and my credit card will not be charged. What a bummer, what pisses me off is that not only did I not get the Zhu Zhu's, Toys R US put a hold on my credit card for 3 business days. I called TRU and all I got was Sorry somebody beat you to the punch.
So for those out there shopping on TRU be careful because if you don't end up getting them or any other toy you will have to wait 2-3 business days for the credit hold to come off.

Yep CVS Pharmacy will be getting Zhu Zhu's in early December. I can't imagine they will have a ton of them but it is worth a shot.

Latest Adventures at Walmart
I Decided to go out last night around 12am to hit some Walmart stores, I thought for sure I would find at least one zhu zhu pet but no luck at all. Everyone at Walmart is well aware of the Zhu Zhu's and I couldn't get a direct answer from any employee or manager about when they will be arriving. The latest rumor I heard was that they will be holding onto Zhu Zhu's and selling them on Black Friday.

I did see something interesting last night in Crystal Lake. 3 Teenagers where walking around electronics with a baby carrying seat with a fake baby in it. It looked a little odd to me but I'm on a mission to find Zhu Zhu's so I need to focus on them. Anyway within minutes of me noticing them, 3 police officers where dispatched to Walmart to question these 3. Turns out Walmart thought they where shoplifting so they called the police, after I observed the whole scenario the kids where clean and where walking around with a fake baby for a school project. Toys R Us online sales 5am - 7am CST
Rumor has it that Toys R Us online stocks Zhu Zhu pets during the week online from 5-7am Central standard time. The stock is very limited but I have heard of success stories from many hunters. I tried Thursday & Friday morning but no luck.
Toys R US Secret Members Only Sale 11/21 6 am
Looks like Toys R Us this morning had a secret sale for Zhu Zhu Pets this morning, the sale was for Toys R Us Rewards members only and the store opened one hour earlier at 6 am. I missed the sale but I heard the sale in Crystal Lake, IL had over 100 zhu zhu pets and accessories.

Thank you for showing interest in our Zhu Zhu Pets! Unfortunately, we do not sell direct to consumer, but goods are arriving weekly at both Toys R Us and WalMart… and are now in Target stores. Other stores carrying Zhu Zhu Pets are: Meijer, Shopko, Duckwall, Blains, select Hallmark Gold Crown stores and other fine retailers. I am unable to tell you EXACTLY what stores have which toys, but I do know that there are shipments in route. Due to high demand, stores are having difficulty keeping Zhu Zhu Pets on the shelves. I recommend checking back with your local retailers frequently to see if they have Zhu Zhu Pets in stock.
We are aware of Ebay and amazon.com selling Zhu Zhu Pets for more than their suggested retail price. However, we can not prevent them from doing this, as they are third party sellers. Please know that we are not associated with these unauthorized re-sellers in anyway and can not influence their return policies. Do NOT overpay! The good news is the more product we ship to the retail shelves, the less value the product has on .com sites and the prices should correct themselves. Goods are being shipped. We have over 2 million hamsters on the way that will hit store shelves before Christmas. We do apologize for this inconvenience and fully understand your frustrations.

just in, Meijer stores say that Zhu Zhu Pets will not be available until 2010, they will not be stocking anymore this year. Some what good news for me as I won't have to keep going to this store

No luck at Walmart or Toys R Us
Well I went to Walmart last Saturday and the line was too long, no luck getting any.
Then on Sunday I went to the Toys R Us in Crystal Lake, IL and the line was out the door I didn't even attempt to stand it because there was at least 100 people in line before the doors opened.
I'm still on the hunt here and I heard a rumor that Walmart is keeping one box on each shipment to the stores and they are putting them aside for a big sale they are going to have the week of Christmas.

Toys R Us & Walmart Sunday Sale
Ok so I got an email from Toys R Us and tomorrow Sunday 11/8/2009 they will sell one Zhu Zhu pet to the first 50 customers.
I also heard Walmart will has been hoarding the Zhu Zhu Pets all week and will be selling them starting from 12:01 to 8:00 am..
Well its 11:05pm right now, looks like I better grab my camcorder and head to Walmart.

So I must have hit 45 stores on Friday.. I figured since I have been abusing the Crystal Lake to Elgin area I thought I would try a different approach. Went from Deer Park > Arlington Heights > Rolling Meadows > Schaumburg > Bloomingdale and of course my favorite one of all the Walmart in Crystal Lake, IL.
Well I bet your wondering if I got one??? The answer is NO, I'm starting to think people are making these things up.
Here is a quick highlight from Fridays adventure
Toys R US - Schaumburg, IL
It was like any other Toys R us when I walked in but this one was going to be special. So I walk over by the aisle and there are no Zhu Zhu pet, a lady got there at the same time I did to find the same result. So I happen to look up and I notice 2 boxes with the company name that makes Zhu Zhu's. The hair on my arms stood up.. So right around the same time the lady next to me notices the same thing. Now the heat is on and we need to find us one of those qualified employees at Toys R Us to get these boxes down. So I grab Reggie (not sure that is his name but I would bet $10.00 his name was Reggie) anyway, he brings down the 2 boxes and I'm standing right next to him so if they are in the box I'm guaranteed to get one.... well .. no hammies, it was the play stuff, skateboard, surfboard, car, etc. So I grabbed them all (I had no plans of buying) but I wanted the lady next to me to suffer. The 2nd box was opened and the same thing. So I had all of these playsets and the lady ask me are you going to buy all those.. I said YEP!!!! .. the look on her face was priceless. So I turned to her with this I'm better than you look and said which one do you need? She replies "I'm really looking for the Car" I said that is great I have 10 of them and I'm holding on to them so kids don't get them for Christmas. Her face didn't change not one bit when I said that. So I gave her the skateboard one. She was pissed but I couldn't resist. Long story short, I took all the accessories and put them in different places throughout the store. I figured since I can't find the damn hamsters people aren't going to get those unless they search the store....Where's Waldo Baby?

If you watch closely I do like ever seasoned vet does, I did a quick peek into the woman's cart to see if she had any Zhu Zhu's. For those new to the game of hunting, it is ok to push old people out of the way when searching for a Zhu Zhu's (trust me its in the rule book)

"I was at the local Target in Woodridge, IL with a hot tip that Zhu Zhu's where in Town.
So Since I have trouble walking I used my scooter to move quickly to the aisle. I got to aisle and there was 1 Zhu Zhu left. It was me and another woman, she was quick and pushed me aside like I was an old piece of cheese. Needless to say the hunt is still on.

We got a phone call from our friend Zhu Zhu Hunter #3..
She went to Toys R US and no luck for Zhu Zhu's.. but a lady told her she was just at the Target in McHenry and she just bought 10 Zhu Zhu Hamsters...So our friend asks her if she could buy one from her.. Just one not trying to be greedy here.. So the lady has the nerve to tell her.. oh, if you want them go onto Ebay as I have about 100 listed.. WOW!!!!!

So I stroll by the toy aisle to see if these little pests are on shelves.. ....................NOPE!!!
But I did happen to meet 3 nice hispanic women that where putting toys on the shelves.. so what the heck I ask the question... "Excuse me..Excuse me.. Do you happen to know if there are any Zhu Zhu's in those boxes" Amazing you would have thought atleast one of them could have spoken English so know they are on those cool Walkie Talkies.. "CODE RED" At least that is what I heard..
So in the meantime I don't know what is going on.. until a very nice woman who does speak English comes by. I asked the question again.. she laughs like HA I bought them all this morning.. Now I have already had a large cup of coffee at starbucks.. Sorry I'm not using the official coffee calling that starbucks likes to use.. Anyway I ask her and she said sorry we are all out of stock. So I charm up to her and ask her in a frantic attempt ... "Can you please open all those brown boxes over there to see if there happens to be any Zhu Zhu's"... Well she did open them all but NO Zhu Zhu's.. She was nice but a little slow......on to the next store.

So I ran towards the Toy isle to camp out for 10 minutes... Target is a very nice store.. especially since they released Pearl Jam Backspacer.. there is nothing like listening to Got Some hundred times in one hour.. Great they finally have listed because it used to be 2, now the Zhu Zhu bandits will have to get more troops out in the morning.. BTW they did have the Zhu Zhu Playset .. no hamsters though that is really what we are looking for.
Hightlight of the Trip: Watching the lurkers by the Toy isle... you know who you are... the ones that pretend like they are looking for something when instead you got your hawk eyes on the Zhu Zhu Isle...
Toys R US - Algonquin, IL
Wow stood outside for 30 minutes before the store opened with 20 other humps. I tell you it is a battle waiting for the doors to open, because when it does all hell breaks loose. Today was a good one I had Mr Karate chop and Susie homemaker chasing behind me as I made a mad dash for the Zhu Zhu pet isle. I had a good move today as I hit isle 3 and paused, just to see if anyone behind me would think the Zhu Zhu's where in Isle 3 (they are actually in isle 4).. anyway I hit isle 4 . and .. NO NO ZHU ZHU PETS..
Quote of the morning from the nice mother that was dragging here 1 year old kid on her shoe while chasing me down the Toys R US isle. This was great.. I can't believe she said this to me..

Target in Crystal Lake, IL
Ok I heard a trick you can use at Target to get Zhu Zhu pets, so the wife and I said ok what the hell lets try it.
So we went to the customer service desk and asked the lady there if we can get a rain check for the one and only Squiggles. The lady said they can't do that and I asked to speak to the manager in charge of the store (Well, I thought this would work but it didn't)
So this hefty woman name (D) comes up and says we don't provide rainchecks for Zhu Zhu's. I asked why not and she told me it is not the companies policy. I then asked is it the companies policy to have customer come in and Buy 20 or 30 Zhu Zhu's at a time, she said YES!!!! I expressed my feelings to here about how they should limit the Zhu Zhu's to one per customer.. she said we aren't Walmart>>Damn.. by the way if you are ever in Crystal Lake, IL stop by the Target and ask to speak to the manager on duty if it is (D), you are in luck because she is a winner!!!!!

How it Started - Damn you Zhu Zhu
Since August we have been trying to get Zhu Zhu pets for our daughter for Christmas and after visiting hundreds of Walmarts, Toys R Us & Targets we have become empty handed. We decided to write a blog about our experiences of trying to obtain a Zhu Zhu pet.
Now why is it we can find this damn toy??? Well I guess because all the toys are on Ebay, I have attempted to get this toy now for 2 months with no luck, I refuse to buy this toy on Ebay and pay a penny more than what it is in the store.
In the coming days we will be uploading videos and pictures of our experience, come back to visit us to see if we become successful in our journey. We will also be exposing the craziness of this toy hunting experience, including interviews, standing out front of stores, exposing the individuals that are buying up all these toys and my adventures of trying to obtain one.
In the meantime let the games begin and purchase a Zhu Zhu Hunter shirt.
